DUTASTERIDE MESOTHERAPY FOR MALE PATTERN BALDNESS

Kitchener-Waterloo clinic offering Dutasteride Mesotherapy.

This is a modern, evidence-informed option that delivers micro-doses of dutasteride into the scalp (intradermal micro-injections). The goal is to target DHT activity where it matters most—around the follicles—while keeping overall body exposure as low as reasonably possible.

This therapy is available for men and post-menopausal women.

Dutasteride Mesotherapy

We are proud to be one of the few clinics that offers Dutasteride Mesotherapy, a novel method to treat both male pattern baldness and androgenic pattern baldness in post-menopausal women. We are located in Kitchener-Waterloo and can see patients from any location.

Why Dutasteride?

Dutasteride blocks the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (5-alpha reductase). When taken by mouth, dutasteride can lower serum DHT very strongly (one review notes ~90% reduction), which is part of why it can work well—but also why some people worry about systemic side effects.

With mesotherapy, the concept is localized delivery: the medication is placed into the scalp skin in small amounts, rather than circulating through the whole body at oral doses.

Benefits of Dutasteride Mesotherapy

Localized, follicle-targeted approach
Intralesional (intradermal) dutasteride studies consistently report improvements in hair density/thickness, often supported by photographs or trichoscopy, though protocols vary between studies.

Minimal systemic effects reported in studies
A 2025 systematic review/meta-analysis concluded intralesional dutasteride appears promising and was generally well tolerated, with only minimal adverse events reported and no significant systemic effects reported across included studies (while also emphasizing the need for larger, more standardized trials).

Convenient Maintenance Schedule

Because dutasteride has a long half-life, some published regimens space sessions out (including protocols at ~3-month intervals)

How The Treatment Works

  1. Physician assessment
We confirm the pattern is consistent with androgenetic alopecia and review your medical history, goals, and current hair-loss treatments.

  2. Scalp micro-injections (mesotherapy)
Dutasteride is injected into multiple points across the thinning scalp. Technique and dosing vary in the medical literature; one Canadian dermatology review describes injections spaced about ~1 cm apart with small volumes per point.

  3. Follow-up and plan
Hair growth is slow. Most people judge meaningful change over 3–6 months, with clearer assessment by 6–12 months.

SAFETY AND SIDE EFFECTS

Most reported side effects are local and temporary, such as:
• Scalp tenderness, redness, mild swelling (common side effects after any injection)

Serious complications are uncommon but can include:
• Infection, persistent irritation, or bruising

Important note: Dutasteride mesotherapy for androgenetic alopecia is off-label (meaning dutasteride is an approved medication, but this route/indication isn’t the official label use). Evidence is encouraging, but protocols are not fully standardized and larger trials are still needed.

PRICING

 $489.99 per session + tax

This includes before and after photographs for monitoring. It also includes the cost of the medication and supplies used. However the treatment itself is not covered by OHIP.

FAQ

Is Dutasteride Mesotherapy better than oral finasteride or oral dutasteride?
It depends on which drug is being compared. Oral therapy with dutasteride specifically, has a stronger response for many patients. However it also poses a significant risk of side effects. Mesotherapy with dutasteride is best seen as an option for patients who prefer a localized approach to avoid or minimize any risk of side effects.

Do I need to stop minoxidil or other treatments whilst getting Dutasteride Mesotherapy?
Often, no. Many patients combine approaches (for example, minoxidil + a DHT-targeting strategy). Your plan depends on your pattern, scalp health, and goals. We will create a combined strategy during your consultation.

What is the success rate for Dutasteride Mesotherapy?

We have seen success rates of around 80% in the literature.
